Alabama track and field athletes Katelyn Adel and Miracle Ailes secured podium finishes in the pentathlon on the opening day of the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Indoor Championships, held in Bryan-College Station, Texas. Adel earned silver with a school record 4,312 points, which also stands as Switzerland’s national season-leading mark. Ailes took bronze with 4,295 points, marking the second-highest total in University of Alabama history.
In other events, Dismus Lokira finished second in the men’s 5,000-meter race with a time of 13:36.33. Caren Kiplagat placed third in the women’s 5,000-meter at 15:12.56, achieving the second-fastest time ever recorded by an Alabama athlete in that event.
The women’s distance medley relay team—Milicent Wafula, Macauley Flanagan, Gabriella Hernandez and Cynthia Jemutai—set a new school record with a fourth-place finish at 10:58.96.
John Landers and Patrick Daves concluded day one of the men’s heptathlon in fifth and seventh place respectively; both will complete their remaining events on Thursday.
At the end of day one, Alabama women led the conference standings with 33 points while the men ranked third with 15 points.
Adel set personal records (PR) or season bests across multiple pentathlon disciplines: she finished tenth in the 60m hurdles (8.62 seconds), tied her PR for third place in high jump (1.74 meters), won shot put (13.63 meters), placed twelfth in long jump (5.79 meters), and was fifth in the 800m run (2:17.14).
Ailes achieved notable marks as well: seventh place and PR in the 60m hurdles (8.51 seconds), first place high jump (1.83 meters), ninth place shot put (11.89 meters), third place long jump with a season best (6.14 meters), and fourteenth place with a PR in the 800m run (2:28.07).
For heptathlon results after day one: John Landers posted personal or season bests to sit fifth overall; Patrick Daves is seventh after tying his PRs or setting new ones across several events.
Other notable performances included Caelyn Harris finishing fourth—and Ryhan Balous seventh—in women’s long jump; both athletes set personal records that rank them among Alabama’s all-time top performers.
Events continue Thursday beginning at 11 a.m., including Noelle Igberaese competing in women’s weight throw and further heptathlon action from Daves and Landers starting at 12:30 p.m., followed by additional track events later that afternoon.
