Two athletes from the University of Alabama track and field team earned First Team All-America honors on the second day of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Distance runner Brenda Tuwei finished eighth in the women’s 10,000 meters with a personal record time of 32:20.14. Shortly after, shot putter Mye’Joi Williams secured seventh place with a final throw measuring 17.73 meters (58-2).
On the track, Doris Lemngole, who is the reigning national champion in the steeplechase, posted the fastest time in her event’s semifinal by more than ten seconds, finishing in 9:26.44 to advance to Saturday’s final.
Alabama’s schedule for Friday includes Katelyn Adel starting competition in the women’s heptathlon at 1:45 p.m. CT. Later in the afternoon, Christopher Crawford, Trevor Gunzell, and Christopher Young will compete in the men’s discus at 4:15 p.m.
The evening will feature Samuel Ogazi competing in both the men’s 400-meter final at 8:02 p.m., and as part of Alabama’s 4×400-meter relay squad at 9:21 p.m.
After two days of competition, Alabama’s women are tied for 26th place with three points.
Results from Thursday also include Megan Albamonti placing sixteenth in women’s javelin (50.91m), Mariia Horielova finishing ninth in long jump (6.39m), Treneese Hamilton coming twentieth in shot put (16.52m), and Precious Nzeakor taking twentieth place overall—and sixth in her heat—in the women’s 200-meter semifinals (23.06). In addition to Tuwei’s performance, her time now ranks third all-time among UA athletes.
Friday’s events for Alabama include multiple heptathlon disciplines for Adel throughout the day and finals appearances for both individual athletes and relay teams.
