Alabama lost to Missouri 5-2 on March 21, evening the weekend softball series between the two teams.

The game was significant as it marked Missouri’s first win in Southeastern Conference play this season. Alabama, with a strong record of 28-2 overall and 6-2 in conference games, started strong but could not maintain its early lead.

Alabama took an early advantage with solo home runs from Audrey Vandagriff and Alexis Pupillo in the first inning. However, Missouri responded with three runs in the third inning—two of which were unearned—and added two more runs later in the game. In the top of the seventh inning, Mari Hubbard led off with a double and Alabama loaded the bases with two outs, but a lineout ended their rally attempt.

The first inning was notable for being Alabama’s seventh multi-home run inning this season and the only time it has occurred in the opening frame. Pupillo’s home run extended her streak of reaching base to 26 games, just five short of her career best set at UNI in 2023. Hubbard went two-for-three at bat, matching her total number of multi-hit games from last year.

The teams will face each other again on Sunday, March 22 at noon Central Time.
