The Alabama gymnastics team concluded its season on Apr. 5 in the Corvallis Regional Final, finishing fourth with a team score of 197.175. The result made Alabama one of only two programs nationwide to score above 197.000 in every meet this year.
This performance highlights the team’s consistency throughout the season and places it among elite company alongside Oklahoma, which also maintained scores above the 197 mark in all competitions.
Sophomore Kylee Kvamme was a standout for Alabama, earning a team-high 9.900 on balance beam—the third-highest score overall—and tying her career high with a 9.925 on vault, which was second-best at the regional final. Ryan Fuller and Natalia Pawlak both scored 9.900 on uneven bars, matching for the second-highest individual marks in that event during the meet.
Azaraya Ra-Akbar returned to compete in all-around for the first time since Jan. 23 and recorded a total of 39.475 points, including a career-high balance beam score of 9.875 achieved in just her third appearance on that apparatus this year. Senior Gabby Gladieux finished her collegiate career by posting an all-around total of 39.325.
No. 5 UCLA won the Corvallis Region with a score of 197.725, followed by Minnesota (197.625) and Utah (197.500). Alabama’s fourth-place finish closed out its competitive year.
Head coach Ashley Johnston said, “I’m really proud of our team tonight… This was dubbed as, pretty much, the toughest regional in the country to be at… There was just so much talent, so much competitiveness on the floor… Unfortunately, it wasn’t our night to move on.” Johnston added praise for her seniors: “They will go down in history as leaders of a culture transformation… I’m proud of each and every one of them and their growth as gymnasts, as humans, as leaders… We’ll keep fighting as Bama always does.”
