The No. 17 Alabama men’s golf team finished in fourth place at the Mossy Oak Collegiate on April 14, recording a team score of four-under-par 860 (292-284-284).
The tournament took place in West Point, Mississippi, where Brycen Jones led Alabama with a fourth-place individual finish at six-under-par 210. Jones posted a final round score of five-under 67. Nick Gross tied for eighteenth and William Jennings tied for twenty-third, both contributing to the team’s overall performance.
Head coach Jay Seawell said, “There are a lot of things we can take away that were positive. We just keep shooting ourselves in the foot enough to keep us from doing the little things it takes to win a golf tournament. We are doing some big things, but not the little things and that’s where we need to be better. There was a lot we can build off of – I was proud of Brycen (Jones) and he has been playing good consistent golf for us. (Nick) Gross is starting to round into form and looked the part this week.” Seawell also commented on the end of regular season play: “The regular season is over. That was it. It’s time to put it all together. It’s championship season and we have to be ready to perform the way I know we can perform.”
Jones earned his third top-five finish and fourth top-ten result across nine tournaments played this season, finishing with three consecutive rounds at par or better during this event—marking seventeen out of twenty-seven rounds this year where he achieved that feat. He also led all players in par-four scoring at six under par.
Other notable performances included Nick Gross achieving his first top-twenty result by closing even-par over three rounds, while William Jennings finished one-over-par with his ninth consecutive tournament featuring a sub-par round.
Looking ahead, Alabama will await its NCAA Regional assignment which will be announced Wednesday, April 29 at 3 p.m., with regionals taking place May 18-20 across six sites nationwide.
