The No. 16 Alabama men’s golf team finished in second place at the Linger Longer Invitational, which concluded on March 22. The Crimson Tide posted a team score of 27-under par 837 over the three-day, 54-hole event.
The result was led by William Jennings, who secured a runner-up finish with a tournament total of 13-under par 203. Teammates Connor Brown and Jonathan Griz both tied for ninth place, each finishing at 6-under par 210.
Head coach Jay Seawell said, “There were a lot of things that we can built off from this tournament. There were many positives that we can take away, and I think we are really close to playing winning golf. We still have work to put in because there’s a line that we’ve got to learn to get to in order to finish better. We’re getting there and there were a lot of good things today in the final round that I saw, especially seeing things that we specifically talked about last night before playing today. I am proud of the boys and I can see we are getting closer to that point. It was great to see Connor’s performance and also great to see Griz earning a top 10 finish. Of course, William continues to play solid for us. There were a lot of things that we can take away from this weekend. As a head coach, I understand that as competitors, our team has to get better and continue to put in the work so we can get better, but this was a step in the right direction.”
Jennings’ performance marked his fourth first or second-place finish out of seven tournaments this season for Alabama. His score set new career-best marks for single-round scores as well as his lowest tournament total relative to par.
Jonathan Griz recorded three consecutive sub-par rounds on his way to his best score relative to par since winning medalist honors at last year’s Linger Longer Invitational. Connor Brown achieved his career-best single-round score with a final round of six-under-par 66, moving up 22 spots on the leaderboard.
Alabama has now finished either first or second at the Linger Longer Invitational for four straight years. Georgia won this year’s event with a team score of 48-under par 816.
The Crimson Tide will next compete at the Maridoe Intercollegiate in Carrollton, Texas on March 30-31.
