Alabama men’s golf in sixth place entering final round at The Hayt

The Alabama men’s golf team stands in sixth place after completing 36 holes at The Hayt tournament in Ponte Vedra, Florida. The team finished the first two rounds with a combined score of 11-under par 565, recording scores of 279 and 286 on Saturday and Sunday.

Brycen Jones led Alabama through the opening rounds, posting a 4-under-par 68 in the first round and following up with a 1-under-par 71 in round two. His total of 5-under-par 139 places him tied for eighth individually, just two shots behind the overall leader. Jones also leads his teammates with 11 birdies over the two rounds.

Nick Gross started strong for Alabama with a team-best score of 5-under-par 67 in round one but shot a 2-over-par 74 on Sunday. He is tied for nineteenth place at three under par. Jonathan Griz sits one shot back from Gross at two under par after consecutive rounds of par or better (72-70), joining Jones as the only Crimson Tide golfers to achieve this over both days.

Jack Mitchell holds a tie for fifty-sixth at two over par (72-74), while William Jennings completes Alabama’s starting lineup tied for sixty-first at three over par (76-71).

Competing as an individual, Connor Brown posted a notable second-round performance with a four-under-par 68, bringing his total to three under par and tying him for nineteenth place overall.

The competition features eight teams ranked among the top fifty nationally, including eight inside the top twenty-five. No. 21 Charlotte surged into first place after carding ten under par as a team in round two and now holds an eighteen-under total. LSU and Auburn are close behind at fifteen under, followed by Texas Tech at fourteen under and South Carolina at twelve under rounding out the top five teams.

The final round is scheduled to begin Monday morning.
