The No. 16 Alabama men’s golf team advanced to second place on Mar. 21 after the second round of the Linger Longer Invitational, finishing with a team score of 13-under par 563 (278-285).
This development is significant as it positions Alabama within striking distance of the lead heading into the final round, showcasing strong performances from several team members.
William Jennings led Alabama in the second round by shooting a bogey-free 6-under 66, bringing his total to 10-under par 134 (68-66) over two rounds. Jennings’ scores mark career lows for him in both an individual round and across two rounds. He will enter Sunday’s final round just one shot behind overall leader Grayson Wood of Georgia, who stands at 133.
Jonathan Griz recorded his second consecutive round of 1-under par 71 and is tied for 18th with a total score of 2-under par 142 (71-71). Brycen Jones is tied for 24th at 1-under par 143 (68-74), giving Alabama three golfers among the top twenty-five individuals. Connor Brown sits tied for 31st at even par (144), while Nick Gross is in seventy-first place at five-over par (149). Jack Mitchell, competing individually, finished the day tied for fifty-sixth at two-under par (142).
Alabama was one of only five teams to record sub-par rounds on day two. No. 34 Georgia leads the fifteen-team field at thirty-one under par and holds an eighteen-shot advantage over Alabama. Elon (-11), Ohio State (-10), and No.11 Vanderbilt (-9) complete the top five teams.
The third and final round is scheduled to begin Sunday morning.
