Alabama men’s golf prepares for OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational after season-opening win

The Alabama men’s golf team, ranked No. 18 nationally, is set to compete in the Olympia Fields Country Club (OFCC)/Fighting Illini Invitational from September 19-21. The event will be held at the Olympia Fields Country Club North Course in Olympia Fields, Illinois, a course with a par of 70 and stretching 7,353 yards.

Alabama comes into the tournament following a win at the Folds of Honor Collegiate last weekend. The team’s lineup for this event includes Jonathan Griz, William Jennings, Jack Mitchell, Connor Brown, and Luke Powell.

The field for the OFCC Invitational features several top-ranked programs according to the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Preseason Poll. In addition to Alabama, notable teams include No. 1 Oklahoma State, No. 3 Texas, No. 4 Florida, No. 6 Arizona State, No. 9 Florida State, No. 11 Illinois, No. 13 Georgia Tech, No. 15 Texas Tech, and No. 20 Texas A&M.

Olympia Fields Country Club has hosted major tournaments in its history such as two U.S. Opens (1928 and 2003), two PGA Championships (1925 and 1961), one U.S. Senior Open (1997), five Western Opens (spanning from 1920 to 1971), as well as recent BMW Championships in both 2020 and 2023.

The three-day invitational begins Friday morning and concludes Sunday.
