The Alabama men’s golf team, ranked 11th nationally, finished the first round of the Watersound Invitational in 10th place on Monday in Panama City, Florida.
Brycen Jones and William Jennings led the Crimson Tide with rounds of 1-under 69 and even-par 70, respectively. Michael Crocker, playing as an individual, recorded a career-best round of 2-under par 68 and is currently tied for 13th overall.
Jones is tied for 22nd after his opening round score. According to Alabama Athletics, “It marks his eighth round of par or better this year out of 13 total rounds played this year.” Jennings started with a front nine score of 2-over par but improved on the back nine with a score of 2-under par to finish at even par for the day. Jennings entered the tournament ranked ninth in national individual rankings.
Jonathan Griz and Jack Mitchell both shot a 3-over-par round of 73, placing them in a tie for 57th overall. Luke Powell completed Alabama’s starting lineup with a score of five-over-par (75).
Three Alabama golfers are competing individually at this event. In addition to Crocker’s performance, Tristin Wisener carded a two-over-par (72) and sits in 47th place while Connor Brown is tied for 57th at three-over-par (73).
Round two will begin Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. CT with a shotgun start.
