Alabama baseball pitcher Myles Upchurch was named Perfect Game USA’s Co-Freshman of the Week, according to a March 10 announcement from the organization.

Upchurch received the honor after his strong performance against North Florida on March 8. The freshman right-hander struck out a career-high 11 batters over six innings, helping Alabama secure a series sweep of the Ospreys. His 11 strikeouts matched the highest single-game total by an Alabama pitcher this season.

Upchurch has quickly become a key contributor for the Crimson Tide. In his first four collegiate starts, he holds a 3-1 record with a 1.91 earned run average over 18.2 innings pitched. He has recorded 31 strikeouts in that span, leading all Division I freshmen and posting a strikeout rate of 14.9 per nine innings—the highest among Alabama pitchers.

His strikeout rate ranks fifth in the Southeastern Conference and sixteenth nationally in Division I baseball. Upchurch also leads his team with a 41.9 percent strikeout percentage and holds opponents to a .539 on-base plus slugging percentage, which is the lowest on the team.

The recognition from Perfect Game USA highlights Upchurch’s immediate impact as a freshman and his potential for continued success throughout the season.
