The University of Alabama’s track and field program is set to compete in the NCAA East First Round with 41 entries, featuring 33 student-athletes. The event will take place from May 28 to May 31 at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida.
Alabama’s women’s team has qualified 14 athletes for 17 entries, while the men’s team will be represented by 19 athletes across 24 entries. In addition to these qualifiers, Katelyn Adel has secured a spot in the women’s heptathlon for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
“The Crimson Tide will be represented at next week’s NCAA East First Round by 33 student-athletes across 41 entries. The UA women have 14 student-athletes listed in 17 entries, while the UA men will feature 19 student-athletes in 24 entries.”
The competition format mirrors that of the national meet and alternates between men’s and women’s events over four days. The top twelve finishers in each event from both the East and West First Rounds will advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships scheduled for June 11-14 at Hayward Field in Eugene.
Women’s qualifiers include Precious Nzeakor (100m, 200m), Keaton Morrison (800m, 1,500m), Doris Lemngole and Lilly Walters (3,000m steeplechase), Brenda Tuwei (10,000m), Katelyn Adel and Miracle Ailes (high jump), Caelyn Harris and Mariia Horielova (long jump), Treneese Hamilton, Cleo Oye-Agyepong, Mye’Joi Williams (shot put), Mye’Joi Williams (discus), Megan Albamonti and Ellie Partrick (javelin), and Katelyn Adel (heptathlon).
Men’s qualifiers include Jekovan Rhetta (100m, 200m), Donald Chiyangwa (200m, relay), Samuel Ogazi (400m, relay), Oussama El Bouchayby and Peter Diebold (800m, relay), Hudson Hurst and Ezekiel Pitireng (3,000m steeplechase), Ahmed Ibrahim (5,000m), Victor Kiprop, Dennis Kipruto, Dismus Lokira (10,000m), Khristian Watson (high jump), Cross Derriso (pole vault), Trevor Gunzell, Christopher Crawford, Christopher Young (shot put/discus), Barry Evans (discus), RJ Decker and Ruben Banks (hammer throw).
The combined events such as heptathlon are not contested at regional sites; instead the top-24 student-athletes automatically qualify for nationals.
