Alabama’s softball team began the Dugout Club Classic in Tallahassee with two shutout victories on Friday. The day was marked by freshman Kaitlyn Pallozzi pitching a perfect game against Elon, leading to a 7-0 win. This achievement marks the 10th perfect game in Alabama program history and is the first ever thrown by an Alabama freshman. The previous perfect game for the Crimson Tide was recorded by Montana Fouts at Ole Miss on May 5, 2023.

In their second matchup of the day, Alabama faced tournament host and sixth-ranked Florida State. After three scoreless innings, Alabama took control with three home runs in one inning and later added four more runs in the seventh, resulting in an 8-0 victory over Florida State.

Freshmen pitchers Pallozzi and Vic Moten played key roles in both games. Pallozzi struck out six batters during her perfect game against Elon, while Moten secured a complete-game win against Florida State by allowing only three hits over seven innings and striking out seven.

On offense, freshman Ana Roman contributed significantly across both games, going 3-for-5 with two home runs and seven RBIs. She now leads the team with five home runs this season. Brooke Wells also had a strong performance with four hits on Friday, including a double and a home run against Florida State.

Head Coach Patrick Murphy commented on his team’s performance: “What a great day for the Tide. A perfect game by a freshman in game one and a complete game shutout by a freshman in game two. I’m not sure I’ve seen two better pitched games by freshmen in my career at Alabama.”

The team has now recorded shutouts in seven of its eleven wins this season, including each of its last four games. Alabama has scored at least seven runs in all but one contest so far this year.

Other notable performances include Marlie Giles and Jena Young reaching base safely for ten consecutive games each.

Alabama will continue play at the Dugout Club Classic through Sunday, facing Florida State again on Saturday afternoon before rematches with Elon and Dartmouth later that weekend.
