Alabama softball achieved its 11th perfect game in program history and delivered a powerful offensive showing during two victories on March 25 against Jacksonville State and the University of North Alabama.
The games highlighted both pitching strength and batting prowess for Alabama, which now holds a record of 31-2. The first matchup saw Alabama secure a 10-3 win over Jacksonville State after Jena Young hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning, giving the Crimson Tide a lead they maintained through the end. In the second contest, pitchers Jocelyn Briski, Alea Johnson, and Braya Hodges combined efforts to deliver a five-inning perfect game against UNA. This marks Alabama’s second perfect game this season following Kaitlyn Pallozzi’s performance against Elon on Feb. 20.
Brooke Wells contributed significantly by going four-for-six at bat across both games, scoring six runs with three home runs to regain her position as team leader with fourteen home runs this season. Alexis Pupillo extended her reached-base streak to twenty-nine games with her twelfth home run of the year. Jena Young had four runs batted in on the day, including all three RBIs from her go-ahead homer against Jacksonville State while achieving three hits out of three at-bats in that game. Vic Moten struck out twelve batters over five innings during game one.
Head Coach Patrick Murphy said, “It was an awesome night. I’ve said it from day one – the best way to respect an opponent is to play to your potential – and we did that tonight against both teams. Both teams are great in-state opponents. I thought our batters were terrific all night long and you’ve got to give it to the three pitchers in the second game with the perfect game. It was a great night and everybody on the team did something good. Their confidence should be sky high with this performance.”
Other notable performances included Mari Hubbard achieving career highs with three runs scored and three RBIs against UNA; Moten earning her twelfth win behind her season-best strikeout count; Wells recording her second multi-homer game of this season; Pupillo coming within two games of matching her career-best reached-base streak set as a freshman at UNI.
Alabama will next face North Dakota State at home starting Friday.
