Alabama softball completed a series sweep over Ole Miss with a 2-1 victory on Sunday in Oxford, Mississippi. The Crimson Tide held off a late push by the Rebels, leaving the potential tying run stranded in scoring position during the seventh inning.

Alabama, now 23-0 overall and 3-0 in SEC play, had runners on base in each of the first three innings but could not score until the fourth. Audrey Vandagriff delivered an RBI single to break the deadlock, and Salen Hawkins added a sacrifice fly RBI in the fifth to extend Alabama’s lead to 2-0.

Pitcher Jocelyn Briski improved her record to 8-0 after throwing six shutout innings. In the seventh inning, Ole Miss managed to score when Taylor Roman hit an RBI single, putting runners at second and third with two outs. Vic Moten entered as relief and recorded a swinging strikeout for her first career save.

Head Coach Patrick Murphy said: “I thought [Jocelyn] Briski gave us an incredible start. There were only two innings where people got on base and then Vic [Moten] came in, shut the door and did what she needed to do. The offense did enough to get us one more run than they did. We played really good defense all weekend and that was one of the big keys today.”

With this win, Alabama surpassed its previous best season start since 2013 by improving to 23-0; it is now just two wins away from matching its program-best 25-0 start set in 2007. The team has also strengthened its historical record against Ole Miss, moving to 71 wins and seven losses all-time against the Rebels, including a dominant record of 34-4 when playing in Oxford. This weekend marked Alabama’s nineteenth series sweep over Ole Miss and was their first SEC road sweep since April 2023 at Mississippi State.

On Sunday, Audrey Vandagriff, Alexis Pupillo, and Ana Roman each collected two hits for Alabama. Pupillo extended her streak of reaching base safely to twenty games. Brooke Wells went one-for-three with a walk on Sunday; across the weekend she reached base ten times out of twelve plate appearances.

Vic Moten’s save was not only her first career save but also marked the first save by any Alabama pitcher this season.

Alabama will next face Samford at home in Tuscaloosa on Tuesday at 7 p.m., with coverage available on SEC Network.
