Brooke Wells and Ana Roman of Alabama were named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week, respectively, following a three-game road sweep to open conference play, according to a March 10 announcement.
The recognition highlights the strong performances by both players during the series against Ole Miss. Such awards bring attention to individual achievements that contribute to team success in collegiate softball.
Wells reached base safely in 10 out of her 12 plate appearances over the weekend, including each of her first eight. She went 3-for-3 at the plate in both games one and two, hitting a home run and double in the series opener. Overall, she batted .778 (7-for-9) with three walks, three runs scored, and four runs batted in.
Roman also made significant contributions by batting .571 (4-for-7) and earning at least one hit in all three games against Ole Miss. In game two, she drove in four runs—including a three-run home run—to help secure the series win. She reached base safely in seven out of ten plate appearances during the weekend.
Wells is Alabama’s first player this year to earn SEC Player of the Week honors. Roman is the second on her team to be named SEC Freshman of the Week this season, following Kaitlyn Pallozzi on Feb. 23. The Crimson Tide have now collected five SEC weekly awards so far this season, which also include Pitcher of the Week accolades for Vic Moten (Feb. 23) and Jocelyn Briski (March 2).
As Alabama continues its conference schedule, these individual recognitions underscore both player development and team momentum.
