Alabama track and field began its outdoor season at the Battle on the Bayou on April 3, with Catalina Rodriguez achieving a notable milestone in Baton Rouge. Rodriguez recorded a personal best of 62.94 meters (206-6) in the women’s hammer throw, earning fourth place and moving to No. 6 all-time at the University of Alabama.
The event marked only her second collegiate meet, making her performance especially significant for both herself and the team. Achievements like this can have a positive impact on athlete morale and set new benchmarks for future competitors.
Other Alabama athletes also had strong showings during Friday’s events. Hamdani Benahmed finished fourth in the men’s 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:44.64, while Alexander Osayemi placed fifth in the men’s 400-meter hurdles with a personal best of 51.09 seconds. Judith Mokobe secured twelfth place in the women’s 200 meters, setting her own personal record at 23.33 seconds.
Additional results included Mario Paul finishing fifteenth in the men’s 400-meter hurdles (53.47), Jackson Harris placing eleventh (3:46.12) and Kai Martin thirteenth (3:46.70) in the men’s 1,500 meters.
The Crimson Tide is scheduled to continue competition Saturday with field events beginning at 10:30 a.m., featuring Joyce Oguama in women’s discus, followed by track events starting at noon including participation in the women’s four-by-100 meter relay.
