Doris Lemngole achieved a significant milestone for the Alabama track and field team by winning the women’s 5,000-meter invite at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston. Lemngole finished with a personal record of 14:51.21, breaking the Alabama school record and maintaining her position as second fastest in NCAA history.
At another event in Clemson, South Carolina, Katelyn Adel and Miracle Ailes both secured second place in their respective high jump competitions. Adel set an indoor personal best by clearing 1.74 meters, while Ailes reached 1.81 meters. The men’s 4×400-meter relay team—Mouatez Sikiou, Tarsis Orogot, David Thid, and Samuel Ogazi—posted a time of 3:02.29, which is now the program’s second-fastest ever.
In Nashville at the Music City Challenge, Gabriella Hernandez recorded a top-10 finish in the women’s 800 meters with a time of 2:09.37. The men’s distance medley relay team of Jackson Harris, Andrew Sirras, Colvin Bussey, and Evan Simpson won their event with a time of 9:47.11.
Head coach Dan Waters commented on the team’s performance across all three meets: “This was a strong weekend for us across all three meets. We saw good efforts from several groups, including school-record performances from Dismus and Doris [in Boston], and had athletes execute well in different competitive environments, which sets us up well heading into the final stretch before SECs. Our attention now turns to sharpening things up and making sure we’re prepared to compete at our best come championship competition.”
The team will participate next weekend (February 20-21) at a last-chance qualifying meet in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Select athletes will attempt to secure NCAA qualifying marks ahead of the SEC Indoor Championships scheduled for February 26-28.
