Doris Lemngole of the University of Alabama has been named the Southeastern Conference’s 2025 Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year, according to an announcement from the league office on Wednesday.
Lemngole is recognized as the top performer in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase nationwide. She is also the first runner from Alabama to receive this honor for the Crimson Tide. This award completes a sweep for Lemngole, who previously earned SEC Scholar-Athlete honors during both the 2024 cross country season and the 2025 indoor track campaign.
Lemngole and her team are set to begin postseason competition Thursday at the SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Lexington, Kentucky.
She maintains a perfect 4.00 grade point average while majoring in sport management. Lemngole is a three-time SEC Scholar-Athlete recipient and has also been recognized as a USTFCCCA All-Academic honoree. Her athletic achievements include being a three-time national champion: she won titles in steeplechase during the 2024 outdoor track season, in the 6k during 2024 cross country, and in the 5,000 meters during the 2025 indoor track season.
This season, Lemngole has finished first in every race she entered. Earlier this year, she was named USTFCCCA Division I Women’s National Athlete of the Week after breaking her own collegiate record in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase. She has also been named to Alabama’s Dean’s List twice and President’s List once.
“Doris’ commitment to excellence both on and off the track sets an example for our entire program,” said Alabama head coach Dan Waters. “Her ability to balance elite-level athletics with academic achievement is truly remarkable.”
