For the second consecutive year, Doris Lemngole of Alabama cross country has been named the Women’s Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), according to an announcement made Thursday.
Lemngole is the first female athlete to receive this honor in back-to-back years since Mercy Chelangat, also from Alabama, who won in 2020 and 2021.

Maintained a 3.90 grade point average, majoring in sport management

Two-time SEC Academic Honor Roll member and USTFCCCA All-Academic honoree
Defended her individual Southeastern Conference title and national title during the 2025 cross country season”
Lemngole has maintained a 3.90 GPA while majoring in sport management. She was listed on both the Dean’s List and President’s List twice. During the 2024-25 athletics season, she earned all three Southeastern Conference (SEC) Scholar-Athlete awards for cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track. She is also a two-time SEC Academic Honor Roll member and a USTFCCCA All-Academic honoree. In addition to her academic achievements, Lemngole defended both her individual SEC title and national title during the 2025 cross country season.
