Alabama track and field athlete Doris Lemngole has been named the Women’s National Athlete of the Week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). This is her first national weekly honor of the 2026 indoor track season and the sixth of her career.
Lemngole secured this recognition after winning the Burgess Family Foundation women’s 3,000-meter race at the Millrose Games. She took the lead with about 200 meters left in the race, finishing ahead of professional runner Hannah Nuttall, who clocked 8:32.94, and BYU’s Jane Hedengren, who finished in 8:34.98.
Her winning time of 8:31.39 set a new collegiate record, surpassing Katelyn Tuohy’s previous mark of 8:35.20 set in 2023 by four seconds. The achievement also marks Lemngole’s second consecutive meet breaking a University of Alabama school record; she previously set a new mark in the women’s mile on January 23 with a time of 4:32.69.
The program has now seen back-to-back weekly honors for its athletes. Last week, Katelyn Adel was recognized as Women’s Field Athlete of the Week by the Southeastern Conference.
