Alabama track and field athlete Doris Lemngole won the Burgess Family Foundation women’s 3,000-meter race at the Millrose Games in New York on Sunday. Lemngole finished with a time of 8:31.39, setting a new NCAA collegiate record and breaking her own previous personal best by more than 10 seconds.

With approximately 200 meters left in the race, Lemngole moved from third to first place and maintained her lead to the finish line. She finished ahead of professional runner Hannah Nuttall, who placed second with a time of 8:32.94, and BYU’s Jane Hedengren, who finished third at 8:34.98.

Lemngole’s time surpassed the previous NCAA collegiate record of 8:35.20 set by NC State’s Katelyn Tuohy in 2023 by nearly four seconds. Her performance also improved on her prior indoor personal record of 8:41.83 from last year’s David Hemery Valentine Invitational.

This achievement follows Lemngole’s recent performance at the Orange and Purple Invitational last weekend, where she broke Alabama’s school record in the women’s mile with a time of 4:32.69.
