Alabama track and field athlete Ellie Partrick set a new facility record in the women’s javelin on March 28, winning the event during the final day of the Crimson Tide’s outdoor season-opening weekend in Starkville, Mississippi.
Partrick’s opening throw reached 54.76 meters (179-8), which secured her victory and moved her to second place all-time in program history for the event. The achievement marked a strong start to Alabama’s outdoor campaign.
On the track, Judith Mokobe led a relay team composed of Taylor Gullatte, Precious Nzeakor, and Ryhan Balous to first place in the women’s 4×100-meter relay. Mokobe also won the women’s 100 meters with a time of 11.51 seconds.
Head coach Dan Waters said, “This was a good start to the outdoor season for us. We had a small group competing across two meets and saw some solid performances along with valuable experience in different environments. There were a few encouraging results, but more importantly it gave us a chance to get outside, compete and see where we are. We’ll build on this and continue focusing on the details as we move forward throughout the year.”
Alabama is scheduled to return next weekend with its multis group traveling to Austin, Texas for the Texas Relays from April 1-2. Other members will head to Baton Rouge, Louisiana for Battle on the Bayou from April 3-4.
