FOIA Request to Shelton State Community College Regarding Chinese National Students on May 16, 2025.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the Tuscaloosa Leader have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Shelton State Community College. This request seeks detailed information concerning Chinese National students currently enrolled at the institution.

Our inquiry specifically requests:

1. Documents or lists identifying all current students who are Chinese Nationals, along with their respective departments of study. If such information is protected, we ask for the total number of these students and a breakdown by department.

2. Records detailing any scholarships awarded to Chinese National students, including the amount received and the source of each scholarship.

3. A list of recipients of scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council, unless this information is already covered in the previous request.

4. Policies or procedures that outline how the university monitors students, including those who are Chinese Nationals, to safeguard intellectual property and other confidential information.

This request is made on behalf of The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing transparency within governmental agencies through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws. As members of the media, we play a crucial role in holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the public. We believe that access to these records will help us fulfill our professional responsibilities more effectively.
