FOIA Request to The University of Alabama Regarding Chinese National Students on May 16, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in governmental affairs, we have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to The University of Alabama. This request seeks comprehensive records concerning Chinese National students currently enrolled at the university.
Our inquiry specifically requests documents or lists detailing all current students who are Chinese Nationals, along with their respective departments of study. In cases where student names are protected by privacy laws, we have asked for the total number of such students, broken down by department.
Additionally, we seek information on scholarships awarded to these students. This includes the amount each student receives and the source of each scholarship. Furthermore, we have requested details about any scholarships granted by organizations affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council.
To ensure that intellectual property and confidential information are adequately protected, we have also asked for any university policies or procedures related to monitoring students, including those who are Chinese Nationals.
This request is made on behalf of Tuscaloosa Leader and The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy. As members of the media, we believe access to public records is crucial for holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. We have requested a fee waiver in line with our role in disseminating information to the American electorate.
