Alabama men’s basketball guard Houston Mallette has been named to the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Community Service Team, according to an announcement from the league office. The SEC Community Service Team, now in its 28th year, honors student-athletes for their contributions outside of athletic competition.
Mallette is averaging 7.0 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game this season. He serves as secretary for Alabama’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and holds the position of Men’s Basketball Chair on the SEC Leadership Council. Mallette has also been nominated for Sport Management Masters Student of the Year.
His community involvement includes speaking to Congress in Washington, D.C., about name, image, and likeness (NIL) issues in college sports before the start of the season. He has participated in events such as Alabama Athletics’ Halloween Extravaganza and the Beat Auburn Beat Hunger Food Drive. Mallette leads Bible study sessions for Alabama Athletics and has hosted a youth basketball camp at Tuscaloosa Academy. Additionally, he visited local firefighter stations to distribute hydration packs and wrote letters to patients in hospital burn units.
According to the SEC, “The SEC Community Service Team recognizes accomplishments of the student-athletes beyond the field of competition. This is the 28th year for the SEC Community Service Team.”
