Alabama track and field athlete Joyce Oguama was named the Southeastern Conference Women’s Co-Field Athlete of the Week, according to an announcement from the league office on Apr. 7. This is Oguama’s first conference weekly honor and also marks the first such recognition for Alabama in the 2026 outdoor season.

Oguama achieved this distinction after her collegiate debut at the Battle on the Bayou, where she won the women’s discus event. The athlete from Bochum, Germany set both a University of Alabama school record and a meet record with her performance.

Oguama’s throw reached 62.13 meters (203 feet, 10 inches), breaking a school record that had stood for 21 years. Her mark also made her the current national leader in women’s discus.

This recognition highlights Oguama’s impact since joining Alabama in fall 2025 and underscores her potential for future competitions. As she continues to compete this season, observers will be watching to see if she maintains her leading position nationally.
