Alabama track and field athlete Katelyn Adel has been named the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Women’s Field Athlete of the Week, according to an announcement from the league office on Tuesday. This is Adel’s first conference weekly honor of the current season and the second of her career, following a freshman of the week recognition during last year’s outdoor track season.
Adel earned this distinction after her pentathlon season debut at the Orange and Purple Invitational in Clemson, South Carolina. She finished first overall with a total of 4,154 points, which moved her to No. 2 all-time in Alabama history for the event. Her performance included three consecutive collegiate personal records (PRs) at the start of the five-event competition. These three events accounted for 2,575 of her total points.
Her individual results were as follows: she ran the 60-meter hurdles in 8.65 seconds for 984 points, cleared 1.73 meters (5-8) in the high jump for 891 points, and threw 12.58 meters (41-3.25) in shot put for 700 points.
According to Alabama Athletics, “Adel’s point-total leads the SEC in the pentathlon and serves as a top-five NCAA season-point accumulation.”
