Alabama men’s basketball guard Latrell Wrightsell Jr. has been named Southeastern Conference (SEC) Co-Player of the Week, sharing the honor with Missouri’s Mark Mitchell, according to an announcement from the league office on Monday.
Wrightsell received this recognition after helping Alabama secure victories against Mississippi State and No. 22 Tennessee. Over these two games, he averaged 21.5 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists.
This is the first time Wrightsell has earned the SEC Player of the Week award in his career. During these games, he made 52 percent of his shots from the field and converted 52.6 percent of his three-point attempts. He also made 87.5 percent of his free throws.
Against Tennessee, Wrightsell scored a season-high 25 points for Alabama and made six three-pointers, marking the fourth time this season he has made at least five threes in a game. So far in SEC play this season, Wrightsell is shooting 43 percent from beyond the arc, which ranks him fourth in the conference.
“I am grateful for this recognition and proud to represent Alabama,” said Wrightsell Jr.
The award highlights Wrightsell’s performance as Alabama continues its season in conference play.
