Alabama track and field athlete Doris Lemngole finished as the national runner-up in the women’s 5,000 meters on March 13 during the opening day of the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Lemngole recorded a time of 15:03.42, while her teammate Caren Kiplagat placed ninth with a time of 15:22.24, earning second team All-America honors in her debut at an indoor national meet.
The event also saw Alabama’s Caelyn Harris finish ninth in the women’s long jump with a mark of 6.32 meters (20-9) on her second attempt. On the men’s side, Samuel Ogazi advanced to Saturday’s final in the men’s 400-meter after running the second-fastest overall time in prelims at 45.00 seconds. Dismus Lokira finished twelfth in the men’s 5,000 meters with a time of 13:53.22 and earned second team All-America honors.
In other results from day one, Miracle Ailes competed in multiple pentathlon events, including finishing second in high jump with a clearance of 1.81 meters (5-11.25) and sixth in shot put with a personal record throw of 12.13 meters (39-9.75). Katelyn Adel participated as well, placing thirteenth in the pentathlon’s 60-meter hurdles.
Looking ahead to day two of competition, field events are scheduled to begin at 1:45 p.m., featuring Miracle Ailes in the women’s high jump. Track events will start at 5 p.m., highlighted by Samuel Ogazi competing in the men’s 400-meter event final.
The performances on opening day set up several Alabama athletes for further competition and recognition as they continue their participation at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
