Cost of college went up for all students at Shelton State Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 6.6 percent for 2018-19 at Shelton State Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Alabama residents paid $4,467 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $278 more than the $4,189 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 99.4 percent more than residents this year, or $8,907. Their price tag grew 14.8 percent from $7,759 in 2017-18.

About 95 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Alabama residents. And about 3 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 73 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 562 students received grants or scholarships totaling $3.1 million.

Including all undergraduates (4,350), 2,722 students used grants or scholarships totaling $13.1 million.
