HALE COUNTY LIBRARY: Drop Everything. Get Counted.

Census

Hale County Library issued the following announcement on Sept. 2.

SOME SHOCKING NUMBERS FOR HALE COUNTY: Participate in the Census!

I've been counted in the 2020 Census. Have you? The more families and individuals who are counted, the more Federal tax dollars (OUR dollars) will flow back to OUR community. If you aren't counted, then $1,600 (a Census Bureau calculation, not ours) goes elsewhere and for the next 10 years. Add that up ... $1,600 x 10 years = $16,000 LOST from just one individual not completing the Census.

Now consider a family of 10 goes uncounted = $160,000 in tax dollars LOST over the next 10 years! And, considering only ¬¬_54.4% of Hale County residents have completed their 2020 Census forms so far, that means 6681 people in our county have NOT been counted yet. That means those 6681 who've NOT been counted times $1,600 equals $10,689,600.00 in LOST DOLLARS for our County for NEXT YEAR alone! And, since the next Census won't occur again until 2030, we'll lose that $10,689,600.00 per year for the next 10 years = a whopping $106,896,000.00. Let's say that again ... $106,896,000.00! We simply CANNOT afford to lose over $106 MILLION of OUR money to other counties and states!!

The money pays for what? Fire & Police Services, Library Services, Healthcare, Roads & Bridges, Housing Assistance, Disaster Relief, Sewers, Parks, and yes, EDUCATION!!! If you have not been counted, then we have just three words for you-- DO IT PLEASE!!! For the sake of our community!! (PS ...We didn't even account for inflation over the next 10 years, so my estimate of $106 MILLION LOST for our community is LOW!!!)

Complete your census today! Call Hale County Library at (334) 624-3409 for assistance. We will be happy to help you over the phone or at the library! Or, if you get a call from a census worker, don’t hang up…get yourself and your family counted by the deadline…September 30, 2020.
