Tuscaloosa City School District issued the following announcement on Oct. 2.
The Northridge Jaguars have a chance to move to 7-0 for the first time since they started the 2011 season 8-0 before the Hillcrest Patriots ended their win streak. The Friday night the Jags will attempt to keep history from repeating itself when they host Hillcrest. The Jaguars stayed undefeated with a 17-13 win over previously unbeaten Gordo last week. Northridge likes to run the ball, control the clock and play defense. Against the Greenwave, running back LiEric Street carried 24 times for 131 yards and two scores. The stout Jaguar defense limited 4-star quarterback Tanner Bailey to 219 yards passing and forced two turnovers. The Jaguars are scoring 32 points game and giving up just under 9. Hillcrest comes into the game with a 4-1 record. They average 36 points per contest and surrender 22. Northridge is just 2-14 all time in this series.
The Central Falcons (2-3) will look to get back into the win column this week against the Shelby County Wildcats, a region opponent. Central is coming off a shutout loss at the hands of the Paul W. Bryant Stampede. Central trailed 6-0 at the half, but were eventually worn down by the 6A Stampede. In region play this season Central is 1-1. The Falcons handled Marbury two weeks ago 27-12. Shelby County is 3-2 overall and 2-1 in region play. They average 22 points a game and give up 19. The two teams have split the previous two meetings in this series.
After four straight losses, back to back shutout wins have the Paul W. Bryant feeling good about themselves. The Stampede limited a strong Falcons running game and harassed the Central signal caller throughout the night. Bryant quarterback Cameron Ellis and wideouts Luther Watkins and Tobias Burrell led the way offensively for the Stampede. This week Bryant is back in region action as they travel to play the winless Bessemer City Tigers. BCHS has scored just 19 points in their six losses. The defense is giving up nearly 40 per outing. The Tigers own an 8-2 lead in the series.
Kickoffs are 7 p.m.
