Stillman College issued the following announcement on Oct. 7.
Dennis Driver, Chair of the Board of Trustees of Stillman College, announced that three new members have been elected to the College’s Board. Dr. James D. Anderson, Dean of the College of Education, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; Katie Boyd Britt, Esquire, President and Chief Executive Officer, Business Council of Alabama; and Ms. Terry Saban, Co-Founder and CEO of Nick’s Kids Foundation, will begin a three-year term as Stillman College Trustees in November 2020.
Dr. Cynthia Warrick, Stillman College President, said, "I look forward to working with and learning from these three respected professionals. Their commitment to and passion for fostering academic excellence; to providing opportunities for diverse populations; and to unwavering community engagement are well known. I have admired Anderson, Britt, and Saban by reputation for many years. Their appointment broadens the Stillman intellectual base and demonstrates the board's commitment to the College's core values."
James D. Anderson
James D. Anderson became the Dean of the College of Education, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), in 2017 and the Edward William and Jane Marr Gutgsell Professor of History of American Education. Anderson has held key leadership roles during his tenure at UIUC. Among other positions, Anderson has served as the Head of the Department of Educational Policy, Organization and Leadership; and as the University of Illinois Presidential Fellow in the 2015-16 academic year. A longtime leader in the National Academy of Education, Anderson is an internationally recognized and groundbreaking scholar in the history of African American education and school achievement in the U.S.
Katie Boyd Britt
Katie Boyd Britt, a native of Enterprise, Alabama became the first female president and CEO – and the youngest – of the Business Council of Alabama (BCA) in January 2019. Among other duties, as CEO of BCA, Ms. Britt develops strong relationships with state and federal elected officials and leaders of member companies to execute BCA’s policies and enhance its value to the state and its member businesses. She positions BCA to deal strategically and effectively with emerging and changing trends and the needs of the Alabama business community. BCA is a statewide association that advocates for companies of all sizes throughout Alabama. Over the past decade, Ms. Britt has served in a number of senior positions in the office of Senator Richard Shelby in Washington, D.C. Before becoming Senator Shelby’s Chief of Staff, Britt was the youngest press secretary in the U.S. Senate. She previously led a state governmental affairs practice group for the Butler Snow law firm in Montgomery and also practiced corporate law.
Terry Saban
Terry Saban is a philanthropist and teacher, and the wife of former football player and current University of Alabama coach Nick Saban. Saban is the Co-founder and CEO of Nick's Kids Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to helping children, teachers, students, and family initiatives. She co-chairs fundraising efforts for St. Francis Church and its new Saban Student Center. Saban served on the Board of Trustees at Capstone Bank until its recent sale to Smart Bank. Saban continues to support her husband’s coaching vocation by assisting with recruiting efforts and a complement of activities geared to staff, fan and community events.
