PARA is proud to partner with the Tuscaloosa County District Attorney's Office, West AlabamaWorks, Skilled Trades of West Alabama, and Shelton State Community College to host a Second Chance Job Fair at the McDonald Hughes Community Center tomorrow, Tuesday, August 30 from 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Several companies will be onsite offering a second chance at employment to qualified men and women with criminal histories.
According to West AlabamaWorks, one-in-four Americans has a criminal record, which excludes a sizable talent pool from the workforce. Second chance opportunities such as this allow employers to find candidates who can fill skills gaps benefiting the whole community. Tuscaloosa’s District Attorney, Hays Webb, also notes the importance of dispelling the notion that just because a criminal defendant was convicted of a crime doesn’t mean they can’t land a job.
Jay Logan, PARA’s Director of Community Outreach, Athletics, and Senior Programming, says, “PARA is excited to have the opportunity to partner with the legal community and the County District Attorney’s Office, Shelton State, and employers from across West Alabama to host a second chance job fair. It speaks to the importance of creating a stronger workforce post Covid.”
This event is designed for those looking for a “second chance” at work and a promising career, but the job fair is also open to anyone currently looking for employment.
