Grand Opening of the New Eco Trail at Van de Graff Arboretum and Historic Bridge Park | Tuscaloosa County Park & Recreation Authority
PARA is pleased to announce the grand opening of the new Eco Trail at Van de Graaff Arberetum and Historic Bridge (VDG) Park located at 3231 Robert Cardinal Airport Rd., Northport, AL 35476. The community is invited to join us for a brief ceremony on Tuesday, April 4 at 12:00 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
The Eco Trail represents a collaboration between PARA, the Tuscaloosa Morning Rotary Club, and The University of Alabama’s (UA) Department of Art & Art History, as well as the UA Department of Biological Sciences. Additions include custom trail signage with informational placards on metal sculpture stands, entrance signage, and a pedestrian bridge.
Craig Wedderspoon, UA professor of Sculpture, along with his students, designed and constructed the stands. The informational placards were researched and written by the UA Department of Biological Sciences. PARA Park Operations managed the overall construction and installation.
Adrian Cleckler-Collins, PARA’s Director of Park Operations and Rotary Club member, said, “An Eco Trail brings environmental awareness by showcasing the unique aspects of your surroundings. ‘Eco’ refers to the park’s unique 141-acre wetland ecosystem which combines aspects of land and water to create a distinctive habitat where certain plant and animal species are protected and can flourish.”
The installation makes birds, reptiles, insects, and fungi available for discovery. VDG Park welcomes visitors from 6:00 a.m. to dusk daily.
