Alabama baseball’s Tyler Fay was named the College Baseball Foundation Pitcher of the Week, the organization announced on Mar. 24. The recognition follows Fay’s performance on March 20, when he pitched a no-hitter against then-No. 18 Florida, marking only the ninth no-hitter in Alabama program history.
The award is one of several national honors Fay has received for his outing against Florida. He was also named Golden Spikes x D1Baseball Pitcher of the Week and Perfect Game USA’s Pitcher of the Week, and earned a spot on Baseball America’s Week Six National Team of the Week.
During his start against Florida, Fay pitched all nine innings, striking out a career-high 13 batters while allowing just two walks. He retired 27 out of the 29 batters he faced and struck out at least one batter in seven different innings, with multiple strikeouts in five innings.
Fay became the first Alabama pitcher since Eddie Owcar in 1942 to throw an individual nine-inning no-hitter and delivered Alabama’s first no-hitter since 2014. His performance helped secure a series-opening win that led to Alabama’s first sweep over Florida since 2002.
Through six starts this season, Fay holds a 4.06 earned run average with team-leading numbers in innings pitched (37.2), strikeouts (47), and opponent batting average (.187).
