Alabama baseball pitcher Tyler Fay was named the Golden Spikes x D1Baseball Player of the Week, according to a March 23 announcement from USA Baseball. Fay received this honor for his performance against then-No. 18 Florida on March 20, when he threw a no-hitter in a 6-0 win.
Fay’s achievement marks the ninth no-hitter in Alabama program history and is the first individual nine-inning no-hitter by an Alabama pitcher since Eddie Owcar accomplished the feat in 1942. It is also Alabama’s first no-hitter of any kind since 2014.
During his outing, Fay set new career highs with nine innings pitched and thirteen strikeouts. He surrendered only two walks and retired twenty-seven of the twenty-nine batters he faced. Fay struck out at least one batter in seven of his nine innings, including multiple strikeouts in five innings.
His strong start helped Alabama secure its first sweep over Florida since 2002. With this performance, Fay now leads the team with a 4.06 earned run average through six starts, along with forty-seven strikeouts and an opponent batting average of .187 across thirty-seven and two-thirds innings pitched.
Fay is also notable as the first Alabama player to earn USA Baseball’s weekly honor since they began presenting it in 2018.
