Victor Kiprop secured his fourth consecutive 10,000-meter title at the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Outdoor Championships in Lexington, Kentucky. Kiprop’s victory marks the first time in league history that a student-athlete has won the men’s 10,000m run four years in a row. The win also extends Alabama’s streak to eight straight titles in this event.
In addition to Kiprop’s achievement, Alabama had three other runners finish in the top eight: Dismus Lokira took third place, Hillary Cheruiyot finished sixth, and Dennis Kipruto came in eighth. Their combined efforts contributed 20 points to the University of Alabama men’s team standings, which was the second-highest total by any school on the opening day of competition.
RJ Decker earned bronze in the men’s hammer throw with a personal record of 68.39 meters on his second attempt. This performance moved him to fifth all-time in school history for the event. On the women’s side, Ellie Partrick finished sixth in javelin with her first throw reaching 51.82 meters, also moving her into fifth place all-time at Alabama.
After day one of multi-events, Katelyn Adel is currently second in the heptathlon with 3,404 points following first-place finishes in both high jump and shot put—her shot put mark was part of back-to-back personal records including a new best in the 200 meters. John Landers sits eighth after day one of decathlon competition with notable performances including a fifth-place finish in the 100-meter dash and fourth place in the 400 meters.
By day’s end, Alabama’s men were second overall with 26 points while the women’s team ranked twelfth with three points.
Advancing to Saturday’s finals are Precious Nzeakor (women’s 200m) and Oussama El Bouchayby (men’s 800m), each having won their respective heats or qualified based on time.
“Victor Kiprop found an extra gear and used a come-from-behind sprint to secure his fourth consecutive 10,000-meter title (30:10.85), as all four Crimson Tide runners clocked a top-eight, scoring finish,” according to an official statement from Alabama track and field staff.
Kiprop’s performance highlights both individual accomplishment and continued team strength for Alabama distance running at conference championships.
