Alabama men’s golfer William Jennings has been named to the United States Palmer Cup team, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced on May 5 during a live broadcast on the Golf Channel. The event will take place July 3-5 at Tralee Golf Links in West Barrow, Ireland.
Jennings is the ninth Alabama men’s golfer selected for this international competition, which brings together top amateur golfers from around the world. He is also the first Alabama player to make the team since Davis Riley in 2018.
The Arnold Palmer Cup, established in 1997 by Arnold Palmer and The Golf Coaches Association of America, is a Ryder Cup-style tournament that features teams of collegiate golfers representing the United States and Europe.
Alabama Head Coach Jay Seawell said, “I am so proud of William. He has worked really hard and through that hard work he has had a tremendous season. What an honor to be selected to the Palmer Cup team. Any time you get to play for country it’s a fantastic opportunity.”
Jennings has had an outstanding season, currently ranked No. 8 nationally among all Division I men’s golfers according to Scoreboard/Clippd national rankings. His year includes six top-five finishes across ten tournaments for Alabama, highlighted by two first-place finishes and two runner-up results. He won medalist honors at both the Folds of Honor Collegiate and tied for first at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational before narrowly missing out in a playoff. Jennings was also named SEC Golfer of the Week after his performance at Ben Hogan Collegiate and earned runner-up spots at both Fallen Oak Collegiate and Linger Longer Invitational.
He placed third overall among individuals at this year’s SEC Championships and received recognition as Ben Hogan Award September Golfer of the Month while being named to watch lists for both the Ben Hogan Award and Haskins Award. Jennings leads Alabama in several statistical categories including total stroke average (70.03), average vs par (-1.07), rounds in the 60s (13), and rounds of par or better (22).
His selection highlights his achievements throughout this season as he prepares to represent his university and country on an international stage.
